If you have recently been diagnosed with Osteoporosis or Osteopenia it may feel like a bit of a damning diagnosis. However there is a lot we here at PhysioCare can do to help. We run an eight week progressive Osteoporosis class which is exercise based in both our Blanchardstown (Dublin 15) and Carrickmines (Dublin 18) clinics. The emphasis of the class will be on weight bearing strengthening and balance exercises. Evidence-based research points to weight bearing exercises being the optimal type of exercise to maintain and improve bone density and increase muscle mass in the osteoporotic population. Balance exercises are equally as important as a fall can result in very serious fractures and injuries. As Osteoporosis and Osteopenia are a ‘silent’ condition as there are often no accompanying symptoms; there will be a strong emphasis on education over the duration of the course, enabling you to manage your condition long term. If you have had a recent DEXA scan we will ask you to bring the results along on the first day. You do not need a letter of referral from your doctor to participate in this class.
