Pilates is a form of exercise, focusing on lengthening and strengthening certain muscle groups, with the primary focus on strengthening your core. PhysioCare offers Pilates Dublin Classes (both in the north (D15) and south (D14 + D18) regions. Classes only allow for a maximum of ten participants so that our Chartered Physiotherapists who lead the classes can spend one-on-one time with you if required. Pilates includes numerous principles of rehabilitation methods including that of core stability which has been shown in evidence-based research to assist in the management of low back pain. It is a low impact form of exercise which means it creates no stress to joints; making it feasible for almost anyone to participate. The class is suitable for advanced stages of injury rehabilitation for almost any injury, particularly repetitive injuries. It has been shown to be effective for injury prevention and aids with postural correction and body toning.

Although Pilates has its many benefits, these are best achieved when it is tailored to the specific individual rather than used as a generic exercise tool. As such, it is highly recommended to book in for an initial assessment with a Chartered Physiotherapist before beginning a new physio Pilates Dublin class. By doing this, your physiotherapist will be able to ascertain exactly what Pilates can do for you and as to what forms and movements are best suited to your individual needs. An assessment will also reveal if you are an unsuitable candidate for Pilates if for example most of the movements and principles would aggravate your injury or condition at present.
