Hands on Active Treatments: Move Better. Build Strength. Stay Better.
At PhysioCare, we believe successful physiotherapy is about more than relieving pain. It’s about helping you restore movement, rebuild strength and develop the confidence to get back to the activities that matter to you.
Our Active Treatments use movement, exercise and progressive rehabilitation to address the underlying causes of pain and injury. Every programme is tailored to you, whether you’re recovering from an injury, returning to sport, managing a long-term condition or simply looking to move and feel better.
Rather than relying solely on treatment delivered by your physiotherapist, active rehabilitation gives you an important role in your own recovery.
What is Manual Therapy?
Active treatment is a hands-on approach in a different sense: you are actively involved in the rehabilitation process.
Your physiotherapist will assess how you move, identify areas of weakness, restriction or reduced control, and develop a programme designed around your individual needs.
Exercise rehabilitation can help with:
-
Back and neck pain
-
Shoulder, hip and knee problems
-
Muscle and tendon injuries
-
Joint pain and stiffness
-
Sports injuries
-
Post-operative rehabilitation
-
Recurring injuries
OUR Active Treatment Services
-
Exercise Rehabilitation Individualised exercise programmes designed to restore strength, mobility, control and function following pain or injury. Your physiotherapist will select exercises specifically for your condition and gradually progress them as your body becomes stronger and more capable.
-
Strength & Conditioning Strength is an important part of both rehabilitation and injury prevention. Our physiotherapists use progressive strengthening exercises to help rebuild capacity in muscles, tendons and joints while preparing your body for the demands of everyday life, work or sport. The aim isn't simply to become stronger. It's to build the right strength, in the right areas, for the activities you need to perform.
-
Mobility & Flexibility Reduced mobility can affect how you move and place additional strain on other areas of the body. We use targeted mobility and flexibility exercises to help restore comfortable movement, improve joint range and support better overall function. Your physiotherapist can also show you practical exercises that can be continued independently between appointments.
-
Movement Retraining Sometimes pain isn't simply about where it hurts. How your body moves can also play an important role. Movement retraining helps identify and improve movement patterns that may be contributing to discomfort, reduced performance or repeated injury. Depending on your needs, we may work on walking, running, lifting, squatting, reaching, balance or movements specific to your sport or occupation.
-
Balance & Stability Training Balance and stability are essential for confident movement at every age. Targeted exercises can help improve coordination, joint control and confidence while reducing the risk of falls or recurring injuries. Balance and stability programmes may be particularly beneficial following lower-limb injuries, surgery or periods of reduced activity, as well as for older adults looking to maintain independence and confidence.
-
Sports Rehabilitation & Return to Sport Getting out of pain is only one part of returning to sport. Our physiotherapists can progressively rebuild your strength, movement, control, speed and tolerance to exercise before gradually reintroducing the demands of your chosen sport. From recreational runners and gym-goers to competitive athletes, rehabilitation is tailored to your current ability and your goal. The objective is simple: don't just return. Return ready.
-
Post-Operative Rehabilitation The right rehabilitation can play an important role in recovery following orthopaedic surgery. We provide structured, progressive rehabilitation following procedures involving the knee, hip, shoulder and other joints, working alongside the guidance provided by your consultant or surgical team. Treatment may focus on restoring movement, rebuilding strength, improving walking and functional ability, and gradually returning you to normal activities.
