World Physiotherapy Day 2016 – Add Life to Years

world physio dayWorld Physiotherapy Day 2016 takes place on Thursday 8th September and the theme this year is ‘Add Life to Years.’ This theme means to highlight how Physiotherapy Treatment and Exercise Therapy can add to the quality of life of the older patient by keeping them active and mobile. Not only is Exercise Therapy proven to help the likes of Arthritis, Back Pain and many other injuries and conditions; it also helps to maintain energy levels and improve the wellbeing of patients.

“Physiotherapy led exercise programmes for older people reduce falls by 32%” – WCPT, 2016

PhysioCare are proud to offer specialised care for the older patient throughout the services we offer. One-to-one Physiotherapy Treatment is carried out in private, spacious treatment rooms across our five clinic locations. If a patient cannot make it to one of our clinics, we have a dedicated Home Visit team who can travel to their home to treat them there. PhysioCare also runs a Fitness50 exercise class designed for the older patient to work at maintaining mobility and wellbeing in our PhysioGym setting. The group class is led by our qualified Personal Trainers with medical supports on site (Blanchardstown – 32 Clonsilla Road, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 and Carrickmines – Unit 2 Carrickmines Manor, Glenamuck Road, Dublin 18) and works to increase strength and movement. We also run Pilates classes in both locations which are known to have benefits for the older patient by relieving back pain, teaching muscles to relax and improving flexibility.

Acknowledging how Physiotherapists “are experts in exercise and function”; facts and figures released by the World Confederation for Physical Therapy to mark World Physiotherapy Day back up these claims:

“Physically active people have 50% lower risk of a functional limitation.”

The World Health Organisation states that more than one-third of people over the age of 70 fail to meet basic guidelines for physical activity. Therefore the ‘Add Life to Years’ campaign aims to highlight the numerous advantages and benefits for exercise therapy in the older population.

PhysioCare can help you get and feel better and add life to years with our Physiotherapy Treatment and Home Visits alongside our active exercise classes such as Fitness50 and Pilates. Call us on 015310007 for more information on any of the above, to book an appointment or to reserve a place in one of our classes.
